Hotel Tartini is called after Giuseppe Tartini, the well-known native of Piran, a violin virtuoso and composer, one of the leading figures of the18th century Italian violinist school. He was born in 1692 in a house of now Tartini’s square not far away from the Tartini hotel. Piran and its inhabitants were very early aware of the importance of this fellow countryman. His immediate and indirect influence can be felt in his home town from the middle of 18th century onward, not only in the music world, but in other arts too and in city life in general.
The Tartini spirit can be felt today in many concerts and festivals, of which Piran Musical Evenings and Tartini Festival are the best known.
